Panic
Panic is a synth piece that employs popular presets and drum loops/break beats, as well as a sample from The Smiths song 'How Soon Is Now?' to accomplish a sort of pastiche-library music for a late 90s-early 2000s sci-fi thriller. This all acts a sort of metaphor for one's own paranoia and feelings of anxiety. This was all created in the DAW program of my preference: Reaper.
This piece is intended to act as a piece of library music, hence the loose, 'all build' structure, to make the piece easy to take segments from for different purposes. Each reiteration of the theme can be used to refresh the material for a different purpose in the medium. The piece is inspired by soundtracks to turn of the century films and games such as The Matrix Series and the Burnout series of high octane car racing games.
The piece includes a lot of carefully placed stereo panning, passing of phrases between synth sounds and cutting and manipulating of the popular jungle drum sample and The Smiths slide guitar sound.
The secondary motive of this piece was to prove that constructive music with depth can be created mainly using synth presets with very few alterations to their programming. This coincides with the topic of my final essay this year.
