Chasing Ghosts
Context:
Chasing Ghosts is a post-punk-esque song for acoustic guitar and vocals. I originally wrote this piece for electric guitar and full guitar band, however I felt that the shrunken orchestration and lowering the original key by a tone gave the song a more solemn tone that suited the meaning behind the words.
The piece reflects on the caged and confused way I felt during the second lock down during the Covid 19 outbreak. I feel I had a slightly alterier situation to many during this time as I had a very shetered and lonely upbringing and during this was the first time I wished to venture outside the walls of my home. How irony strikes. The chords were revolve around Major 9th harmonies, which I believe best reflect the sense of longing and melancholily reflecting on one's situation.
The lyrics reflect feeling trapped in one's situation, scrambling for a 'normal' life and for a chance of happiness while everything seems to fight against them, until they decide that hey don't want to even try anymore.
I again had the help of Callum Lawrence for this track, making a sort of 'studio-live' recording in the conservatoire studios.
